India Lima Oscar Victor Echo You

Today’s theme song is Schradinova’s India Lima Oscar Victor You. This is a Dutch singer, and she’s absolutely amazing – I saw her live twice with her previous band (Room Eleven), and she’s as good live as (if not better than)  recorded. This is my favorite song of her latest album. Square Eyes We got a new TV. It’s my mom’s old one – she and her fiancé are going to live together soon and he has a bigger one, so she gave hers to us. We sit some distance away from our TV, it’s set in a wall with shelves built in it, sort of. Before we had a decent-sized (although maybe a little small) 26″ inch LCD TV. The one we have now is a meager 37″ LCD. It didn’t fit in our shelf wall (and there is...

Writer’s Tool Review: BehindtheName.com – a random name generator

BehindtheName.com is one of my favorite tools. What it offers is simple: random names. You can generate a first name, last name and up to three middle names sorted by gender and category. These categories are what makes BehindtheName so interesting. There is a huge list of languages your names can be randomized in, there are the categories Mythology (and sub-categories), Ancient (and sub-categories), Biblical, History, Literature and Theology. Additionally, there are the categories Witch, Fairy, Goth, Hippy, Rapper, Wrestler, Hillbilly, Kreatyve and Transformer, which are all a little more specific than the rest. A few examples (all first, middle and last names): A masculine Arabic name: Ali Ikram Albaf A feminine Chinese name: Hui Xiang Chu You can also combine...

Guest Post by Gene Lempp – Writer’s Tool Review: WriteWay Pro

Today, I would like to welcome Gene Lempp for a guest post! Thank you Gene, for sharing your knowledge here! I recently completed a 30-day trial of WriteWay Pro and liked it so much that I purchased the program. Whether you’ve used writing software before or not, this is an excellent program. I’ve heard WriteWay compared to Scrivener (another popular writing platform), although to date, I’ve not used the latter. At a later date I plan to test Scrivener out so I can do a comparison review of the two programs. [Manon notes: I wrote a review of Scrivener, you can find it here] Like many, I started out using a written journal and an assortment of Word and Excel documents. Over time this grew to be such a mass that I began looking for ways to organize...

Writer’s Tools: Main Character Survey Update

Hi all! Last week I published the Main Character Survey! It appeared that it didn’t work as well as I’d hoped – nearly every browser, operating system and word processer caused different problems. I had no idea it was so damn hard to just share a document. This made me think: I wanted to provide the form in a different manner, so that everyone could access it easily. First, I started searching for a WordPress form plugin. There are tons, but non provided what I was looking for: a form that didn’t send the results to me, but simply reported them back (clearly, I don’t have any use of your filled in MCS, only you do). You’d think this is form basics, but no. I think I spent 6 hours last Saturday searching for a proper form thing,...

Writer’s Tool Review: The Bookshelf Muse – a comprehensive thesaurus!

Ever find yourself struggling to describe your character’s emotion? Or the place that she is in? Or how to describe the weather? Or colors, shapes, textures? Or some sort of strange symbolism? I bet you do. I know I do. With the blog of Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi, those are worries of the past! At The Bookshelf Muse, Angela and Becca offer countless descriptions of emotion, like amusement, frustration, excitement, anger… You name it. Some are even separated in “introverted reaction” and “extroverted reaction”. How cool is that? An example: Excited/Elated High color; a flushed appearance, Smiling, grinning, Laughter, Bouncing foot to foot, squealing, screaming, shouting, hooping, hollering, Pretending to faint...
