Come on Sunday Girl
Sorry I skipped last week’s mashup, but today I’m back! As I shared a few weeks back, I’m getting driving lessons again. What I didn’t explain is that here, before you can get your exam, you have to take two exams. One theoretical and one practical. In the theoretic exam you are tested on your knowledge of our Dutch road rules. Then, in the practical exam you have to take an examiner in your car who will then decide whether your license-worthy or not. Last Friday, I had my theoretical exam. 25 questions on danger assessment (or awareness, I’m slightly unsure how to translate the Dutch word “inzicht” in this case). For every question you see an image with a situation in traffic, and then you can choose A) brake B) let go of...
Like the Sunday we met
And it’s Sunday again, just like that! You know, I always wish I could sing, but I really can’t. When I sing, it even hurts my own ears. However, this does not make me love music any less whatsoever. Actually, I love music. And I love a capella music, and choirs, too. They do make me a little envious though. Because I don’t want to be alone in my envy, I’d like to share this video. So amazing, right?! I have to announce that I’ll be around a little less than usual in the next few weeks; University is coming to an end before summer break and I have to hand in 4 assignments, do two presentations and have two exams. I will have a little less time than normal to blog and tweet and write… alas, that’s the life of a student!...
Sunday Dress, Sunday Hat
Good morning, Sunday Morning! I did something very special this week. I conquered one of my biggest fears. It may seem like nothing to you but it’s a huge deal to me. Driving a car. You see, here in The Netherlands, driving a car is a lot of a bigger deal than it is in the US. We’re not allowed to start taking lessons before we’re 18 years of age and we generally drive stick shifts. Also, our country is about the size of Rhode Island. We live here with 16 (almost 17 by now?) million people. This obviously makes for a lot of cars, which means that it’s much harder to navigate. Plus, our roads are much less wide (although we do drive smaller cars ;p). Anyway, here, you have to take at least 40 hours of private driving lessons – you...
Another Pleasant Valley Sunday
And yes, it be Sunday again! Today I’d like to discuss guilty pleasures. I always thought I didn’t really have one, but I do. I absolutely ADORE this website TomandLorenzo.com. It’s a blog written by a gay married couple, who post approximately six blogs a day (impressive, right). These blogs are on fashion (my favorite is their red carpet commentary), reality TV (although I only read the posts on Project Runway, I’m a fan) and television shows (they covered Lost, V, Mad Men, Glee, you name it). What I love is that they’re incredibly sharp, open-minded and witty! They usually make me laugh at least once a day. If I haven’t read their blog for a couple of days, I’ll make a cup of tea, sit down and just read all the blogs...
I Put On My Best Sunday Dress
Time for another Casual Sunday post! Perhaps you’ve seen I mentioned “Queen’s Day” a couple of times on Twitter in the past few days. Queen’s Day, or Koninginnedag, is a Dutch holiday, celebrated on April 30th. Queen’s Night is celebrated the night before. Basically, what Queen’s Day entails is that everyone, nationwide, has a day off. Most people spend the day one of our bigger cities (like in Utrecht, where I live) to enjoy all the events that are organized (lots of music and fun festivities). Flea markets are all around the city. Queen’s Day also entails a LOT of booze. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT. Everyone’s drunk… Except for me, because I don’t drink, lol (but I did join my boyfriend...
